Maryland Public Television Connects JHU Scientists and Middle/High School Teachers on Critical Environmental Health Issues

BALTIMORE, MD (PRWEB) July, 2003 ? Over 100 middle and high school teachers from across Maryland are working on making the environmental health sciences zing! in their classrooms by using innovative teaching methods and computer technology.
On July 21-24, 2003, they will gather in Baltimore at the ?EnviroHealth Connections Summer Institute? with top scientists from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health to share their lessons on air, water, population, and other environmental topics.
Among other JHU presenters, Dr. Michael Trush, Deputy Director, Johns Hopkins Center in Urban Environmental Health, JHU Bloomberg School of Public Health, will deliver a keynote about critical environmental health issues in our region and Dr. Lynn Goldman, Professor, JHU Bloomberg School of Public Health, and Director, Mid-Atlantic Public Health Training Center, will address health and environmental exposures to children.
EnviroHealth Connections is a 7-year partnership of Maryland Public Television and Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, funded by a grant from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences to infuse human environmental health topics and issues into all curriculum areas using inspired teachers, cutting-edge technology, and super-powered information exchange.
The lesson plans and digital resources developed by teacher teams will be accessible on MPT?s Thinkport.org?a free, comprehensive online resource for Maryland educators, families, and community members (http://www.thinkport.org). Thinkport is funded through a grant from the U.S. Department of Education Star Schools Program.
