The D.C. Attorney General says plans to create hot spots in city restaurants and hotels for Internet gambling comply with federal laws.
"The [lottery] board's implementation of the plan has been and continues to be consistent with federal law so long as technology... ensures all of the gambling takes place within District borders," Attorney General Irvin Nathan said at a council hearing on the plan Wednesday morning.
Lottery officials said Internet gambling hot spots in D.C. will be open on Sept. 8. Players 19 years old and over will be capped at spending $250 a week and software will be used to monitor the system to make sure it's not hacked from the outside, officials said.
The games will include Texas Hold'em Poker, Blackjack and "random number generated games," which look a lot like an online version of a slot machine.
