Turn your iPhone into a two-player games console with GameDock, now seeking Kickstarter funding

GameDock is the latest innovative project to arrive on Kickstarter and it looks like a really interesting proposition. Aimed squarely at the retro gamers amongst us, it looks to provide an interface between your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch and your HDTV as well as giving you two handheld controllers to improve any gaming experience.

Have you ever played a great retro game on your iPhone, only to be frustrated with the touch controls? Or have you wanted to play an awesome iPad game with a friend, but two people holding one tablet just doesn?t feel right? With the GameDock for iOS you can play classic games the way they were meant to be played: with two controllers and a TV. Just plug the dock into your TV like a video game console and your iOS device into the dock like a game cartridge. The GameDock is designed to be compatible with existing iCade games and for dock-ready games that include two-player support and full 1080p HDTV output.

The GameDock will work with any game that currently works with the iCade system; as long as it only requires two action buttons and two menu buttons. There is also a custom dashboard app to enable you to easily find and select compatible games. If you like the look of the GameDock, you can back it on Kickstarter from $100 and be one of the first to get one.

I can?t help thinking that Apple really needs to be the one to make a game controller and standardize the format for all developers. If they do, then you will see most developers adding support for it with their games. Until then however, I just don't see there being enough support for these type of third party controllers
